Rijeka Airport gambles on Zurich flights in 2026
Rijeka Airport will launch seasonal direct flights to Zurich in summer 2026, marking a new step for the Kvarner region’s tourism efforts. Helvetic Airways, a partner of Swiss, will operate the route twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, from July 3 through August 21.
The limited summer schedule targets Swiss travelers as Croatia increasingly focuses on visitors with higher spending power. While Kvarner lags behind Dalmatia and Istria in tourism development, it is gaining attention, particularly in the cruise travel sector. The brief flight window may serve as a trial to gauge demand. Rijeka Airport has historically underperformed compared with other Croatian airports, and the new service could signal a shift for the northern Adriatic coast.
