Rishab Shetty calls shots on Kantara set

Kannada actor and director Rishab Shetty says the true excitement of creating films comes from directing scenes on set. He shared behind-the-scenes photos from Kantara: Chapter 1 on Instagram, showing him at work as director. The star previously revealed he filmed the climax sequence with an injured leg and physical exhaustion, crediting divine support for the scene’s success with audiences.

The prequel features Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth and Gulshan Devaiah in the cast. Set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka, the story examines the ancient origins of the Bhuta Kola ritual first explored in the 2022 original film. The narrative combines regional folklore, spiritual themes and action sequences while tracing connections between humanity, nature and sacred traditions.

The first Kantara centered on Bhuta Kola worship practices in the region. A Kambala champion confronts a forest officer, sparking tensions over consecrated land, family heritage and conflicts between natural customs and government regulations.
