Rome mayor praises Bangladeshi migrants’ contributions during Yunus visit

On Monday, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus praised Rome’s Mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, for his support of the Bangladeshi community, noting their successful cultural integration and contributions to both Italian society and Bangladesh’s economy. “Thank you for taking good care of the Bangladeshi migrants,” Prof Yunus said during a meeting at the Mayor’s office.

Prof Yunus highlighted the role of Bangladeshi migrants in Italy’s economy, particularly their contributions through remittances. He pointed out that many top chefs in Italian restaurants are from Bangladesh. Mayor Gualtieri also commended the diaspora’s positive impact on Rome’s multicultural fabric.

The Mayor, offering a view of the historic Roman Senate from his office, presented Prof Yunus with a commemorative plaque featuring a carved image of Marcus Aurelius. The leaders discussed strengthening cultural ties, Bangladesh’s upcoming elections, and the potential for a visit to Bangladesh by the Italian Prime Minister.
