Rumen Petkov hails high-level Moscow meetings
Bulgarian lawmakers Rumen Petkov, Galin Durev and expert Iliyan Sarandaliev conducted high-level discussions in Moscow with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky, Foreign Policy Committee chairman Leonid Slutsky and Energy Committee head Nikolai Shulginov. The ABV party leader reported that officials warned Bulgaria could face retaliatory special management appointments targeting Bulgarian enterprises operating within Russian territory if judicial oversight remains absent from legislation governing Lukoil operations.
Petkov criticized what he characterized as aggressive American interference while arguing that sanctions targeting Lukoil and Rosneft threaten economic stability across southeastern Europe. He predicted Germany would quickly secure derogations for Rosneft facilities while suggesting that Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Serbia face severe consequences without similar exemptions.
The politician expressed frustration with Bulgaria’s diminished standing within European Commission negotiations on global energy matters.
