Road Safety Institute warns of transport instability
Bulgarian transportation authorities are concealing the severity of road fatalities through statistical manipulation, according to the Road Safety Institute. Officials have excluded 55 deaths from official tallies among 455 total victims this year by exploiting internal reporting protocols that allow single police documents to remove accidents from public records.
Analysis reveals extreme volatility in casualty patterns, with zero deaths recorded on 30 percent of days, while more than three fatalities occurred on 18 percent of dates. Monthly fluctuations prevent effective assessment of safety interventions, leading governments to propose measures without evaluating their effectiveness.
The institute argues that driver behavior reflects environmental conditions shaped by resources, legislation and cultural factors requiring political intervention. Policymakers blame motorists while ignoring systemic deficiencies, though Bulgarian drivers demonstrate improved conduct when operating vehicles in other European nations. Continued administrative failures risk transportation system collapse, threatening national security.
