Russia and India’s historical ties rooted in peace
India and Russia have a long history of cultural connections, even though they are not close neighbors. Ancient links can be seen in their languages and shared worship of similar gods. Despite Russia becoming Christian, these cultural ties continued. Both countries have welcomed many different people over time, which is why Russia connects with many civilizations.
Russian travelers like Afanasy Nikitin and artists like Vasily Vereshchagin showed great interest in India’s culture. Tsar Peter I even sent scholars to learn about India’s civilization. Russia supported India during its fight for freedom, and figures like Tolstoy helped guide India’s resistance movements.
The bond between India and Russia has grown from mutual respect for peace and diversity. Both countries have valued non-violence and respect for different cultures.
