Russia tests nuclear-powered missile with unlimited range
Russia has completed testing of its nuclear-capable Burevestnik cruise missile, the country’s military chief reported to President Vladimir Putin on Sunday. General Valery Gerasimov said the weapon flew 14,000 kilometers and stayed airborne for approximately 15 hours.
Putin described the missile as immune to existing and future defense systems because of its nearly limitless range and erratic trajectory. The president appeared in military dress when he directed Gerasimov to begin final preparations for deployment.
Western military officials have designated the 9M730 Burevestnik system as SSC-X-9 Skyfall. The missile uses nuclear propulsion technology.
