Sabah PH parties celebrate court ruling on 40 percent federal revenue entitlement
Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties celebrated the High Court’s ruling affirming Sabah’s right to 40 percent of federal revenue. DAP, PKR, and UPKO hailed the decision as a long-awaited victory for Sabah’s constitutional rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The three parties had previously withdrawn their own legal challenge in 2023 after joining the federal and state governments, opting for political and policy negotiations instead. They now see the ruling as a restoration of Sabah’s rights.
DAP Sabah chairman Phoong Jin Zhe called the ruling a historic step, emphasizing that the 40 percent entitlement is a constitutional obligation, not a political favor. UPKO and DAP urged the Attorney General not to appeal the decision, while PKR Sabah stressed that the judgment was about justice and recognition for Sabah’s role in Malaysia. The court ordered a review within 90 days and a settlement within 180 days.
