Seven Arab teams make World Cup history with 2026 qualification
Seven Arab teams have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a historic first. Saudi Arabia and Qatar secured their spots during the third round of the Asian playoffs.
This brings the total number of Arab teams to seven, with the chance for an eighth as the UAE and Iraq will play a deciding match in November for the global playoff. The increase in World Cup teams to 48 allowed more representation from different regions.
Jordan was the first Arab team to qualify, followed by Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. The UAE and Iraq are still vying for a spot, aiming to repeat their previous World Cup appearances.
