Sobhana praises Nigar Sultana as Captain Cool
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty earned praise from teammate Sobhana Mostary despite the team’s difficult Women’s World Cup campaign, which produced just one victory in six matches. Mostary defended her skipper against criticism following a narrow loss to Sri Lanka and called her Captain Cool for maintaining composure under pressure.
Mostary credited Joty with using a decade of experience to mentor younger players and boost team confidence through positive communication. The spinner noted that improved domestic cricket infrastructure has strengthened competition across Bangladesh, with six teams competing at high levels in the Premier League, up from two or three years ago.
Bangladesh faces India on Sunday at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai at 3:30 p.m. local time in their final group match. The team has already been eliminated from the tournament but aims to end the campaign with better form.
Mostary expressed optimism that World Cup exposure will inspire more girls nationwide to participate in cricket as the sport gains visibility.
