Sofia man detained for drunk driving, faces jail time

Sofia prosecutors have detained a 59-year-old motorist found operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 2.29 per mille, more than double the legal threshold. Police conducted a roadside examination on Friday, November 8, at 10:30 a.m. along Iskarsko Shose Street using a Dräger 7510 breathalyzer device, though the driver declined subsequent hospital testing. Authorities issued a 72-hour detention order and plan to request extended custody through the Sofia District Court.

The accused faces charges carrying potential imprisonment ranging from one to five years plus monetary penalties between 2,000 and 10,000 leva. State prosecution officials noted the individual holds a prior conviction for an identical offense.
