Sohail Afridi rejects military operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Sohail Afridi, newly elected as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, has voiced opposition to military operations in the province. In his first speech after taking office, Afridi echoed the views of Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, and stressed the need for inclusive policy-making. He firmly stated that no military operation would occur during his tenure, pointing out that such actions aren’t a solution.

Afridi also called for national leaders to involve provincial governments in decisions related to borders and security, especially concerning Afghanistan. He noted that there were no issues with Afghanistan during Imran Khan’s time and urged leaders to engage the tribal people and provincial government when forming new policies.

Afridi was elected amid a walkout by the opposition, with the vote tally showing 90 in his favor. The opposition has rejected his election, citing the unresolved resignation of the former CM, Ali Amin Gandapur.
