Stoynev says euro move seals Bulgaria’s place

A representative from the BSP, Dragomir Stoynev, stated that his party has always respected the Constitution and rulings of the Constitutional Court. He clarified that Judge Kiselova did not take a position for or against the euro, but rather assessed the procedural matter of its consideration by the National Assembly. Stoynev reaffirmed the BSP’s longstanding support for adopting the euro, noting Bulgaria will join the eurozone family where it belongs.

Regarding the 2026 budget, Stoynev expressed pride that it incorporates many longstanding BSP proposals. He defended the increase in social security contributions, explaining that the rate had sharply decreased from 32 percent to 19.8 percent over the years, creating a major deficit in the state social security system.

He characterized the budget as fair, citing its use of the Swiss rule for pension increases and a five percent raise for state administration salaries. Stoynev acknowledged that while incomes are rising across the board, the increases are not as large as some had hoped.
