Tagarev – Aid to Ukraine boosts Europe’s security
Former Defense Minister Todor Tagarev told Bulgarian National Radio that supporting Ukraine serves as a direct investment in Bulgarian security rather than merely fulfilling moral obligations. The European Commission’s latest document positions Ukraine as Europe’s primary defensive barrier, according to Tagarev’s analysis shared on Sunday.
Two competing philosophies have shaped European security policy for decades. One camp advocates for greater European autonomy in defense matters, while the other depends heavily on NATO’s protective framework for continental security.
Tagarev anticipates a ceasefire agreement before any comprehensive peace settlement emerges. Serious diplomatic negotiations could extend across months or years after fighting stops, he said.
