Taxi union demands price hike in Sofia due to rising costs

The National Taxi Union has requested a fare increase for taxi services in Sofia, citing three years without an update. They propose raising the minimum fare to 1.74 leva per kilometer during the day and 2 leva at night. This request follows a legal provision requiring annual updates, which has not been followed.

The union argues that labor costs have risen significantly, with the minimum wage increasing by 52% since 2022. Additionally, car depreciation costs have gone up by 40%. If the fare increase is approved, passengers can expect a rise of around 5 leva for a typical 10-kilometer trip.

The union is prepared to protest if its demands are not met, urging the Sofia Municipal Council to fulfill its legal duty to adjust fares.
