Three Madaripur men killed by traffickers while crossing Mediterranean
Three men from Madaripur district died after human traffickers shot them while crossing the Mediterranean Sea from Libya. Munna Talukdar from Rajair, Baizid Sheikh from Ghoshlakandi, and Imran Khan from Madaripur Sadar upazila were killed aboard a motorized vessel, with their remains discarded at sea.
Khan had paid an agent named Shipon Khan 22 lakh taka for passage to Italy but faced detention and abuse in Libya, prompting his relatives to send an additional 18 lakh taka. The families of all three victims received confirmation of the deaths after the boat incident occurred.
Additional Superintendent of Police Jahangir Alam stated authorities would pursue legal measures if relatives lodge formal complaints against those responsible for the trafficking operation. Residents reported that numerous traffickers have abandoned their residences following community anger over the killings.
