Trump calls Meloni beautiful at Gaza summit, risks career
At a Gaza summit in Egypt on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump made controversial remarks about Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the only woman on stage. He called her “beautiful,” acknowledging that such comments could end his political career in the U.S.
Trump joked about the risks of complimenting a woman’s appearance, saying, “I’m not allowed to say it,” but added, “I’ll take my chances.” He then addressed Meloni directly, calling her “incredible” and praising her political success in Italy.
Trump’s remarks come after his history of criticism for sexist comments. Earlier this year, he faced legal consequences over defamation related to an assault claim.
