Trump to speak with Putin before Zelensky talks
Donald Trump is scheduled to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, a White House official confirmed, a day before Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky meets with US President Joe Biden to discuss the potential delivery of Tomahawk missiles. Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with Putin, who has ignored his calls for a ceasefire while Trump has shown support for Ukraine in its battle against Russia’s 2022 invasion.
Zelensky’s upcoming meeting with Biden will focus on Kyiv’s request for long-range Tomahawk missiles, a senior Ukrainian official revealed. Trump had earlier mentioned the possibility of speaking to Putin about sending the missiles to Ukraine if the war continues.
Trump’s relations with Zelensky have improved since February, after their tense White House meeting. The US president is also pushing for a peace deal in Ukraine, building on his recent success in brokering a ceasefire in Gaza.
