Two killed in Israeli strikes despite Lebanon ceasefire

Israeli airstrikes killed two people on Sunday across Lebanon as attacks persisted despite a ceasefire that formally entered its second year. One person died when a missile struck a vehicle in Naqoura near the southern border, while another perished in a separate strike on a car in Nabi Sheet within the eastern Baalbek area. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health confirmed the deaths and reported one civilian injured from explosive remnants in Aitaroun.

Violence has continued since the truce took effect with Israeli forces claiming to target Hezbollah positions. Strikes killed two people on Saturday and four others between Thursday and Friday. A United Nations expert told Agence France-Presse last week that repeated attacks on civilian vehicles might qualify as war crimes despite Israeli claims about targeting operatives.

The agreement required Israeli troops to withdraw from southern Lebanon while Hezbollah would retreat north of the Litani River. Israel maintains forces at five strategic border locations as Hezbollah refuses government disarmament plans backed by Washington and regional mediators.
