U.S. strike kills six linked to Venezuelan cartel
American military forces destroyed a boat linked to Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua in Caribbean waters, killing six people aboard, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced. President Donald Trump approved the nighttime attack after officials identified the vessel moving through a drug trafficking corridor with narcotics cargo.
Hegseth said the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group moved to Southern Command jurisdiction to expand anti-cartel missions. Assistant Secretary Sean Parnell confirmed that no American personnel were harmed. The Pentagon has launched 10 similar operations against suspected drug boats since early September, leaving at least 43 people dead across the Caribbean and Pacific regions.
Trump told reporters his government plans congressional briefings about the strikes and suggested ground raids against cartels may follow without formal war authorization. Washington accuses Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of shielding Tren de Aragua operations as American surveillance increases near his nation.
