UNFPA delivers essential medical supplies to save mothers in Rohingya camps
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with support from the European Union, delivered essential medical supplies to prevent maternal and newborn deaths in the Rohingya refugee camps. This batch included blood transfusion kits and other supplies for emergency obstetric care. In 2024, 46 maternal deaths were recorded in the camps, with 3 to 5 mothers still dying monthly from pregnancy-related issues. These supplies will help perform caesarean sections and resuscitate mothers and babies, saving lives in the Friendship Field Hospital, which serves 6,000 patients monthly. The European Union has contributed €1 million to strengthen the reproductive health supply chain for nearly 180,000 refugees and host community members.
