Vishal Dadlani recalls first Bollywood interview in 1999
Music composer and singer Vishal Dadlani shared a nostalgic memory on Thursday, posting a clip from his first Bollywood interview in 1999 on Shekhar Suman’s show Movers & Shakers. At 25, he described himself as just a rock and roll kid with no real idea of what he was doing—a feeling he joked still holds true. He said the moment feels both like yesterday and ten thousand years ago.
In the interview, Shekhar asked about his work on the film Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi and the idea of a “young film.” Vishal explained he knew director Raj, who liked his songs and included them in the movie. He noted a wave of fresh talent entering Hindi cinema, naming Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy and Sandeep Chhota as artists reshaping the industry’s sound.
Currently, Dadlani serves as a judge on Indian Idol 16. He said singer Shreya Ghoshal convinced him to join after a late-night conversation filled with laughter. He added that working alongside her, Badshah, and new singing talent makes the job feel like anything but work.
