Wake held for schoolgirl stabbed to death in Petaling Jaya

A heavy silence filled the hall as family, classmates, and friends gathered to mourn 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen, who tragically died in a stabbing incident at her secondary school. At her wake service held at Nirvana Center Kuala Lumpur, the atmosphere was solemn.

By 3 pm, media personnel gathered outside the ceremonial hall where Yap’s body lay in repose. A sign outside the hall read, “Media, photography and video recording are strictly prohibited.” Wreaths from well-wishers, including political parties like DAP and MCA, lined the hallway.

Inside, Yap’s body rested in an open casket as Buddhist nuns led prayers. Several DAP leaders, including Lim Guan Eng and Teresa Kok, as well as Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh, arrived to pay their respects. The wake will continue until Monday morning, when Yap’s funeral cortege will depart for cremation at the Nirvana Crematorium in Shah Alam.
