WFP reaffirms commitment to aid 1.3M Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

Carl Skau, acting executive director of the World Food Programme (WFP), reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to providing food aid for 1.3 million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. He made the remarks during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus in Rome, focusing on the Rohingya crisis, food insecurity in Gaza and Sudan, and challenges in funding global hunger relief efforts.

Skau praised Prof Yunus for his leadership in bringing attention back to the Rohingya crisis and stressed the need for more funding to support refugees in Bangladesh. The WFP will continue its $12 monthly food stipend for each refugee, following new aid commitments from the U.S. and U.K. Yunus also thanked WFP for helping launch a new school feeding program in Bangladesh.
