WHO says Gaza hunger crisis unchanged

The World Health Organization reported on Thursday that humanitarian aid reaching Gaza remains insufficient despite a ceasefire agreement that began on October 10. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated the territory receives just 200 to 300 trucks per day, far below the 600 stipulated under the US-brokered deal between Israel and Hamas. He noted hunger levels have not decreased because food supplies remain inadequate for the population.

Gaza’s medical infrastructure has suffered severe damage from the conflict that followed the October 7, 2023, attacks. No hospitals operate at full capacity; only 14 of 36 facilities provide any services. The territory faces acute shortages of medications, medical equipment, and healthcare workers. Tedros estimated that reconstruction of the health system will cost at least 7 billion dollars.
