WHO warns of deadly contaminated cough syrups from India

The World Health Organization issued a health advisory on Monday about three contaminated cough syrups from India. The syrups, Coldrif, Respifresh TR, and ReLife, were found to contain toxic levels of diethylene glycol. The WHO warned that these products pose serious health risks, including life-threatening illnesses.

The contaminated syrups were linked to the deaths of children under five in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization confirmed that none of the affected batches were exported from India. The US Food and Drug Administration also confirmed the syrups did not reach the United States.
