Zagreb bus station gets long-awaited upgrade
Croatia’s biggest transit hub for intercity coaches will receive comprehensive upgrades for the first time since its construction nearly four decades ago. Zagreb bus station, which handles roughly five million travelers annually, is getting accessibility improvements, including three elevators, a mechanical lift and extensive tactile guidance systems spanning 1,000 meters at a cost of 480,000 euros.
Modifications target passengers with mobility challenges and sensory impairments through adapted ticket counters featuring hearing assistance technology and lowered surfaces for wheelchair users. Installation work on elevator shafts and most tactile pathways has advanced significantly, with completion anticipated by December’s end.
Temporary platform closures during construction will not disrupt operations as alternate boarding areas have been arranged, according to station management. The facility opened before the 1987 Summer Universiade sporting event.
