Zahid Hamidi raises alarm over 60,000 road fatalities in 10 years
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi raised alarms over Malaysia’s road fatalities, revealing that 60,000 lives have been lost in the past decade. He pointed out that 82% of these deaths involved motorcyclists and pillion riders, with 90% of the victims being under 30, resulting in the loss of skilled workers every year.
Speaking at the 2025 Perak MyLesen B2 Programme licence ceremony, Ahmad Zahid urged young people to value their lives and follow safety rules, emphasizing that the nation needs its youth as vital assets. He shared his personal experience as a motorcyclist but stressed the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
At the event, 650 participants from various backgrounds received their motorcycle licences under the MyLesen B2 Programme, which has already issued over 15,000 free licences in 2025, funded by RM5.2 million from the government.
