Zahid urges Bumiputera grads to embrace entrepreneurship over jobseeking

Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi is calling on young Bumiputera graduates to ditch the job seeker mentality and think big—entrepreneurship is the way forward. He warned that if they continue to fight for the same limited jobs, the Bumiputera unemployment rate will stay high, already sitting at 4%—above the national average.

Zahid pointed out that young Bumiputeras, aged 15 to 30, make up a huge chunk of the unemployed. The world of work has changed, he said, and the real opportunities lie in creating jobs and wealth, not just waiting for a job offer. He also highlighted the disappointing fact that Bumiputera corporate ownership still lags at just 18.4%, far behind the target.

To tackle this, Zahid pushed the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35), which is helping more Bumiputera companies get listed. He also backed TVET programs, praising their high employability rates and decent salaries, with more investment in this sector from the 2026 Budget.
