Zhongtong bus hits cow, kills two near Gweru
Two people died and 19 sustained injuries after a Zhongtong bus struck a cow and collided with a Toyota Hilux on the Gweru-Zvishavane Road on Sunday evening. The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the accident occurred near the 10-kilometer mark at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the bus carrying 45 passengers hit livestock on the roadway.
The driver lost control after striking the animal, and the bus crossed into oncoming traffic. The vehicle collided head-on with the Toyota Hilux traveling in the opposite direction. Both occupants of the utility vehicle died at the scene, while emergency responders transported the injured bus passengers to Gweru Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Authorities moved the bodies to the Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations. The police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Hospital officials have not released information about the conditions of the 19 survivors admitted for medical care.
