Zimbabwe to introduce strict penalties and road safety fund under new bill

The Government is about to make life much harder for reckless drivers and transport operators. A new law, the Road Accident Fund (RAF) Bill, is on the way, promising harsher penalties for traffic offenders and a major overhaul of road safety and accident care.

The Bill will create a fund to cover medical aid, funeral costs, and compensation for road accident victims, no matter who’s at fault. Funded by Motor Vehicle Insurance premiums, it aims to slash road deaths and injuries by 2030. With crashes happening every 15 minutes and over 35,000 annually, Zimbabwe’s road safety nightmare is about to face its toughest opponent yet.
