ZPC donates 42 tons of coal ash to fill Bulawayo pits
ZESA’s subsidiary Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) swoops in with a generous 42 tonnes of coal ash to cover up dangerous open pits in Bulawayo. The donation is the city’s savior—pit holes near Fairview Primary School are now filled, thanks to ZPC’s big-hearted gesture and the works department’s quick action. But this isn’t just charity—it’s a sly move to crack down on illegal sand extraction and keep citizens safe from hazardous pits.
And what’s more? The city managed to rake in US$340 from selling sand from the pits, with 244 trucks hauling sand in 2025. Still, don’t get too comfortable—stray donkeys are wreaking havoc, and the city’s woeful animal control is nowhere near ready to stop them.
