2.67 million vehicles expected on highways for Deepavali travel
Around 2.67 million vehicles are set to hit Malaysia’s highways for Deepavali, with peak traffic expected starting October 16, says the Malaysian Highways Authority. A whopping 2.2 million of those vehicles will use highways under PLUS Malaysia, while the KL-Karak Highway, East Coast Expressway Phase 1 and 2, and West Coast Expressway will each see significant traffic surges.
To handle the expected chaos, LLM has ordered highway operators to prepare for smooth travel, ensuring no lane closures from October 17 to 23, except for emergencies, and activating smart lanes at 29 locations.
LLM also cheered on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s 50 percent toll discount announcement for Deepavali as part of the 2026 Budget.
