Anwar Ibrahim defends foreign students in Malaysia’s universities

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has a message for Malaysians: stop opposing foreign students in local universities. With over 170,000 students eager to study here, Anwar says their presence is a win for Malaysia’s education system. These international students pay full fees, while locals get subsidies, helping both private and public universities. He pointed out that private universities rely on this influx for financial support.

Anwar also addressed the ongoing drama over university placements. Every year, when spots open, complaints about missed chances often turn into racial disputes. He admitted that limited spots in popular courses like medicine and engineering cause frustration but promised a solution: 1,500 more spots for top local students.

Education is the nation’s top priority, with the biggest budget share going to the sector. Anwar praised Malaysia’s stable policies, but it’s the hardworking Malaysian workers that truly impress global investors.
