Angelov says manager move protects fuel supply
Bulgaria’s government defended its decision to appoint a special manager for fuel operations, framing the measure as essential for supply security ahead of sanctions taking effect after November 21. Deputy Speaker Kostadin Angelov stated during a television interview that the action protects citizens from potential disruptions and demonstrates the state’s resolve in safeguarding national priorities.
Angelov dismissed opposition criticism as favoring external interests over domestic concerns, alleging that former finance minister Assen Vassilev previously supported arrangements that elevated fuel costs for consumers. The deputy speaker warned that any presidential veto of the legislation would signal alignment with foreign powers rather than Bulgarian welfare, pledging that parliament would swiftly override such action within hours.
The special manager’s primary responsibility centers on maintaining uninterrupted fuel availability for the population as international restrictions approach implementation.
