Anita Anand jets to India, Singapore, China in Carney reset
Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand plans to hit the road on Oct. 12, jetting off to India, Singapore, and China. She aims to tighten ties and hammer out deals under the Indo-Pacific Strategy. In India, she will sit down with the External Affairs Minister and the Minister of Commerce and Industry, eyeing cooperation in trade, energy, and security. The trip lands in Mumbai, where Anand will meet with business leaders targeting jobs and investments.
This mission trails a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G7 Summit on June 13 in Alberta. Both sides called for a reset after months of diplomatic frost. Canada and India quickly swapped in new High Commissioners to ramp up engagement, while security chiefs talked counterterrorism and crime-fighting. After India, Anand heads to Singapore and China, chasing trade deals and marking decades of diplomatic history with both countries.
