Anwar calls for sports development alongside Malaysia’s progress
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia must grow as a sporting nation along with its economy, culture, and education. He stressed that progress should include sports as a key part of society.
Anwar spoke at the launch of National Sports Day in Meru, thanking young athletes for promoting discipline, unity, and spirit.
In Budget 2026, he announced RM580 million for sports development, including the Road to Gold program and preparations for the 2027 SEA Games and Asean Para Games.
Anwar also told Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to keep supporting sports, adding that unity among Malaysians of all races is important. About 10,000 people attended the event.
