Arafat’s nephew returns to West Bank with peace plan

Nasser al-Qudwa, Yasser Arafat’s nephew, is back in the West Bank after four years, bringing ideas to make peace in Gaza. He wants Hamas to shift into a political party and says he’s ready to help lead. Qudwa also slammed the current leadership, calling out the corruption and weak response to Israeli settler violence.

Kicked out of Fatah in 2021 for defying Abbas, Qudwa’s now back after Abbas gave him amnesty. His return comes as the pressure builds on Abbas to push through reforms. If Trump’s peace plan moves forward, Qudwa could play a part, thanks to his ties to Arab nations and his Gaza roots.

Qudwa wants Hamas to give up control over Gaza and hand over weapons to a new government body, promising them a shot at political power in return. He says Gaza should be run by Palestinians with international support, not outside powers. He’s also fed up with corruption in the Palestinian Authority, calling it a major problem.
