Bagchhas renamed as Jatiya Chhatra Shakti

Bangladesh Democratic Student Council renamed itself Jatiya Chhatra Shakti at a national meeting on Thursday. The organization emerged from the July Uprising and held its gathering at Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Hall in Shahbagh. Sabrina Afroz Semanti announced the change before assembled members, who chanted slogans in support of the new identity.

The group was formed in February through cooperation between the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee. Poor results in student council elections prompted leaders to rebrand eight months after establishment. The organization aligned itself with the National Citizens Party and adopted a name similar to those of other affiliated groups.

Al Amin Sarkar said both entities share principles from the July movement. The restructured council plans to announce a central committee soon. Members gathered earlier on Thursday for a conference addressing political strategy and organizational structure.
