Bangladesh election set for February despite charter uncertainty

On Wednesday, Prof Muhammad Yunus confirmed Bangladesh’s next parliamentary election will happen in February. Political parties will sign the July National Charter 2025 on Friday, despite some uncertainty. He said the election would be held in a festive mood, and everyone would work to make it special. He added that the signing of the Charter would be a national celebration.

There were some last-minute disagreements over details, especially about the Charter’s reflection of the Liberation War. Most parties agreed to sign the Charter on Friday but planned to include their concerns. Some wanted a referendum before the elections, while others preferred it later. Despite differences, the signing is expected to happen as planned.
