Bangladesh’s blue economy discussed at IUB seminar on global shipping challenges

On October 12, 2025, the Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies (CBoBS) and the Department of Global Studies and Governance (GSG) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) held a seminar on “Global Shipping Issues Affecting Bangladesh: Challenges and Pathways to Resilient Solutions for Blue Economy.”

Key figures, including Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hussain, Advisor to the Ministry of Shipping, discussed Bangladesh’s maritime challenges. Dr. Hussain stressed the need for international investment in ports for global trade.

Other speakers, like Prof. M. Tamim and Rear Admiral Md Khurshed Alam (Retd), addressed the importance of ecological responsibility for economic growth. The seminar also covered policy reforms and the Bay of Bengal’s strategic role in global trade.
