Bashundhara Shuvosangho launches Hilsa conservation drive in Bhola

Bashundhara Shuvosangho launched an awareness campaign in Monpura, Bhola, on Wednesday, urging fishermen and their families to avoid catching Hilsa during the prime breeding season. A nationwide 22-day operation started on October 4 to protect mother Hilsa and will end on October 25. During this period, catching, transporting, marketing, or storing Hilsa is prohibited. The Monpura unit of Shuvosangho discussed the importance of protecting breeding Hilsa with local fishermen. President Fazle Rabbi highlighted that last year’s ban allowed 52.5% of mother Hilsa to safely release eggs, boosting future production. The campaign is supported by government officials and law enforcement.
