BJP blames Mamata for Durgapur gang-rape case
The BJP criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday over the Durgapur gang-rape case, claiming the state is becoming a hub of crime and cruelty. BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the state’s reputation, once respected, is now tarnished by such incidents, accusing the government of protecting criminals.
BJP leader Agnimitra Paul also condemned the government, questioning the lack of police protection and Mamata’s comments on the victim’s actions. Paul highlighted the absence of streetlights, CCTV cameras, and proper security in areas like Durgapur.
The victim is set to give her statement in court, while police continue their investigation, including reconstructing the crime and collecting forensic evidence from the accused. The victim’s family plans to return to Odisha after her statement is recorded.
