BNB unveils design of Bulgarian euro coins for 2026
The Bulgarian National Bank has revealed the design for the country’s euro coins, which are set to enter circulation on January 1 next year. An informational video published by the central bank details the new coins as part of the broader public awareness campaign for the transition to the euro. The bank also announced that starter packs containing Bulgarian euro coins will be available for purchase beginning December 1, 2025. These starter packs will be sold by the central bank and Bulgarian Posts to individuals, while banks will distribute them to both individuals and businesses. Prices are set at 20 leva for individuals and 200 leva for legal entities.
To support the rollout, the central bank has prepared training materials that include images and technical specifications to help employees recognize the new Bulgarian euro coins. Training sessions, based on European Central Bank standards, will be offered to representatives from banking, postal, trade, and municipal sectors. These sessions are intended for employees who will go on to train others within their organizations about handling and identifying the new euro banknotes and coins. Detailed information about the starter kits and distribution procedures can be found in the central bank’s official regulation.
