BNP urges timely credible national polls

Bangladesh Nationalist Party officials urged authorities on Thursday to conduct timely elections despite efforts to postpone voting. Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said some political groups seek to delay the ballot while the nation requires elected leadership for economic recovery. Standing committee members Abdul Moyeen Khan and Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized the need for administrative neutrality at separate events in Dhaka.

Khan met Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin and requested that partisan officials be excluded from electoral duties. He noted the system became dominated by one party over 15 years and produced three flawed elections. The politician said approximately one million staff members will manage voting at 42,000 centers nationwide. Khan asked the commission to demonstrate impartiality for domestic and international observers.

Ahmed told a university gathering that democratic institutions must function properly for national relief. Fakhrul praised the interim government’s reforms at the Institution of Engineers while stressing that elections remain essential for progress. Khan said administrative personnel should perform duties fairly after past pressure influenced their conduct.
