Borisov mocks Radev, shrugs off turmoil
GERB leader Boyko Borisov dismissed questions about President Rumen Radev on Wednesday and challenged him to explain the funding sources for a 1.05 million leva payment to the state-owned enterprise Botash. He spoke to reporters outside parliament after National Assembly Speaker Natalia Kiselova stepped down.
Borisov said resignations require no parliamentary vote and cited the coalition agreement, which establishes 10-month rotations among the three governing parties. Raya Nazaryan from GERB assumed the speaker role immediately after Kiselova completed her term that began on Oct. 6.
The former prime minister denied tensions exist between GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party over leadership changes. He noted the Supreme Judicial Council will receive new appointments soon after operating with an expired mandate that prevented the selection of a permanent prosecutor general to replace Borislav Sarafov.
Borisov confirmed coalition partners signed their governing agreement on Wednesday. Kiselova initially won the election before parliament could establish normal operations under the rotation system.
