Lawyer slams police farce in Ruse case

The investigation into a confrontation between young people and a Ruse police director has stalled despite clear evidence, according to attorney Metodi Lalov. Authorities delayed ordering psychiatric evaluations for his client while attempting to collect fingerprints and DNA samples from the university student. Police sought criminal registration without legal justification after the eight-second altercation, which Lalov characterized as self-defense when two adults approached the vehicle.

Video recordings remain unavailable to defense counsel, preventing accurate reconstruction of events. Ministry officials issued contradictory public statements about the incident that later proved false. The case involves straightforward facts with identified participants and testimony, yet officials refuse to expedite proceedings that could conclude within weeks.

Fingerprint records remain permanently archived under Bulgarian law, even after acquittals, though recent legislative changes allow for deletion. Lalov criticized authorities for employing outdated socialist-era tactics against the student who lives with his parents.
