Bulgaria clamps down on thrill ride chaos
Bulgaria’s cabinet approved comprehensive safety legislation for amusement facilities covering land, water and aerial attractions. Transport Minister Grozdan Karadjov announced the regulations after recent accidents exposed gaps in oversight and enforcement standards.
Companies must register with the Tourism Ministry and maintain accident insurance for each patron before operating under the framework. Daily equipment inspections are mandatory, and visible safety notices must be posted at every venue. Children under 14 must be supervised at all attractions.
The law amends existing codes governing insurance, maritime commerce, aviation and road transport without requiring additional state funding. Parliament will review the bill before implementation begins.
Operators receive six months after passage to meet compliance standards. Violations carry criminal penalties tied to national penal statutes.
