Bridget Makaza guilty of cold-blooded murder of husband

Bridget Makaza has been found guilty of intentionally killing her husband, MaCloud Zvavovaviri Mapanga, the owner of Kurai Coaches, in 2018. High Court Judge Justice Emelia Muchawa ruled that Makaza acted with intent when she shot her husband three times while he slept at their Harare home on May 14, 2018.

Makaza attempted to cover up the crime by fabricating a robbery, claiming intruders shot her husband and stole money. However, police investigations quickly revealed inconsistencies, and forensic evidence linked the murder weapon to Makaza. The court also found that she had traveled to South Africa to acquire the firearm used in the killing.

Makaza’s defense, claiming abuse and a struggle over the gun, was rejected by the court. The judge concluded that the crime was premeditated, and Makaza had planned the murder, disposed of evidence, and fabricated the robbery story. She is scheduled to be sentenced on October 17, 2025.
