Zimbabwe signs cyberdefense deal with Russia to boost youth training
Zimbabwe has made a significant move to strengthen its cyber defenses by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Russian ZIM Consortium. The agreement, announced at the Cyber Security Expo and Conference in Harare, aims to enhance cybersecurity infrastructure and develop local human capital through training.
ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera emphasized that the partnership will focus on training Zimbabwe’s youth in cybersecurity and improving the country’s response to emerging technological threats. The project, CyberZIM, also promotes international collaboration, with Russian organizations supporting Zimbabwe’s capacity-building programs.
The initiative will create jobs, offer training in high-demand skills, and foster a stronger digital economy. Russian Ambassador Nikolai Krasilnikov praised the partnership as vital for both countries’ socio-economic development, underscoring the growing ties between Zimbabwe and Russia in technology.
